WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY

Effective 1/31/08

The AuthorHouse family of companies currently includes AuthorHouse, Inc., Author Solutions, Inc., Millennium Publishing, Inc., Get Published!, LLC and Wordclay, Inc. (collectively and individually referred to herein as the “ASI companies” or “we”). We may add additional companies in the future. This Privacy Policy applies to all of the ASI companies’ websites (collectively and individually referred to herein as the “Website” or “Websites”).

The Privacy Policy, as detailed below, answers questions you may have about our access to, and the security and control of, your personal information. It also describes how your personally identifiable information will be used, and whether it will be provided to third parties. If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, you should contact us directly at admin@inkubook.com.

All of the ASI companies acknowledge and respect the fact that your personal information – including your name, street address, e-mail address, telephone number and credit card data – belongs exclusively to you. While we collect and store this type of information when you provide it to us, we do not rent or sell it to third parties. We use it only to allow you to access and use the features on our Websites, to process orders, to provide a more personalized Website experience and to contact you about our businesses and our Websites.

The United States Federal Trade Commission has created a website, Site Seeing on the Internet, which provides general tips about navigating the Internet. That website is filled with information about how to use the Internet wisely, how to avoid fraud and deception online, and how to keep personal information private.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

When users visit our Websites, there are two types of information that may be collected.

  1. PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION. In order to serve your needs and to provide you with our products and services, we may from time to time request personal and private information, such as your name or company, street address, e-mail address, telephone number, education, interests, payment information when you place orders, survey information and/or other information that is personal to you. Personally identifiable information excludes any information you may choose to submit publicly, such as reviews, critiques, editorials, testimonials, documentaries, forum or blog discussions.
  2. You may choose to provide us with your personally identifiable information at your option. Some areas of our site are accessible without providing any personally identifiable information; however, your provision of personally identifiable information is a prerequisite for the use and enjoyment of certain areas of our Websites and services.

For example, you may wish to set up an account to participate on services offered through the Websites, obtain additional information about us or our services, or order products or services from us. When you set up an account or place an order, you must disclose certain information to us, such as your name, street address, email address, telephone number and payment arrangements. We will maintain a history of orders and payments via your account for normal accounting and business purposes.

If you choose not to provide your personally identifiable information to us by way of a Website, we may be able to provide alternate ordering and payment arrangements if you provide us with the necessary information via telephone, fax or mail, or via another standard method of communication.

  3. NON-PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION. This type of information is collected each time you visit any of our Websites. Our server automatically recognizes visitors’ domain names and Internet Protocol addresses (where possible). We also collect non-personally identifiable information and general statistics about how visitors use the Websites. This information is collected and maintained in an anonymous, non-personal and composite form, and it allows us to improve the content of our Websites and facilitate market research.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR INFORMATION?

  1. PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION.
  2. We use your personally identifiable information to facilitate your use of our Websites generally, and to allow you to take advantage of our services and products.

We may use your personally identifiable information to notify you about important functionality changes to the Website on which you’ve registered, new and existing services and special offers we think you’ll find valuable.

We may release your personally identifiable information when we believe, in good faith, that such release is reasonably necessary to (1) comply with law, (2) enforce or apply the terms of any of our user agreements, or (3) protect the rights, property, or safety of the ASI companies, our users or others. For example, we may release account information when we believe, in good faith, that such release is reasonably necessary to:

    • allow us to respond to subpoenas, court orders or legal process; establish or exercise our legal rights; or defend against legal claims.
    • investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of any Website's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.

To better serve you, the ASI companies may share your name and contact information internally with each other, in order to offer you other products or services that may be desirable or useful to you. ASI companies share aspects of common ownership and control.

We may employ other businesses and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, sending e-mail, Website analysis, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. These third-party businesses and individuals may have access to personally identifiable information needed to perform their specified functions, but may not use it for their own purposes, such as sending you marketing offers about their products or services.

In the event that our business or any part thereof is sold or transferred in any way to another party, or another business transaction occurs in which your personally identifiable information is one of the business assets transferred, we will notify you before your personally identifiable information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

  3. NON-PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION.
  4. On occasion, we may provide non-personally identifiable information about our users, sales, traffic patterns and related site information to reputable third-party vendors to help us understand this information better. However, these statistics will not include any personally identifiable information. Other than improving our Website and providing our visitors with the best experience possible, we make no other use of this non-personally identifiable information.

HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION?

We are committed to maintaining the privacy of your personally identifiable information, and will treat the privacy of that information with the same or greater security protections as we provide for our own private information. Our Websites have industry-standard security measures in place to prevent the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. While there is no such thing as “perfect security” on the Internet, we take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of all information.

Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information. Furthermore, all employees are kept up to date on our security and privacy practices.

We use encryption technology to keep your personally identifiable information safe. All of your personally identifiable information – your name, street address, e-mail address, telephone number and credit card data – is encrypted using a secure server for maximum security.

Credit card transactions are handled by a third-party financial institution called VeriSign, the world's recognized leader in e-commerce payment solutions. They receive the credit card data only to verify the credit card numbers and process transactions. Furthermore, your credit card and billing information cannot be read as it travels to our ordering system. To ensure that your information is even more secure, once we receive your credit card information, we store only the last five digits on a server that is not accessible from the Internet.

COOKIES

When you visit a Website, information may be stored in a file known as a “cookie.” This file is stored on your computer and is used for future reference. If you revisit a Website, the cookie allows that Website to identify you as a returning guest and tailor your shopping experience to you.

We use cookies in two places. The first is when a user places an order. We use cookies to fill in that user’s name and e-mail address in the form where appropriate (this is known as “auto-fill.”) The second is when a user accesses the User Registration page on a Website. Again, we use cookies for auto-filling the form on the User Registration page.

Most Web browsers will allow you to erase cookies from your computer hard drive, block acceptance of cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. Please refer to your Web browser’s help file to learn more about these functions.

The information contained in our cookies is only used by the ASI companies. Your Web browser will not pass a cookie to a site other than the one that created it.

LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

You should be aware that you may make choices on our Websites that will automatically direct you to other websites that are beyond our control. For example, if you “click” on a banner advertisement, the “click” may take you off the Website onto a different website. This may include links from advertisers, sponsors and marketing partners. These other websites may independently collect data or solicit personal information from you, and they may or may not have their own published privacy policies. If you visit a website that is linked to our Website, you should consult that website’s privacy policy before providing any personal information.

YOUR CONSENT AND NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES

By using this Website, our products and our services, you consent to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If we make any changes to our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of our access to, security and control of your personally identifiable information; how your personally identifiable information will be used; and whether your personally identifiable information will be provided to third parties. Your continued use of the Website constitutes your consent to any updated Privacy Policy.
